Coronation Street fans have been left in a state of confusion after the beloved soap was once again removed from screens due to another scheduling shake-up. The long-standing ITV drama usually adheres to a regular weekly schedule, airing hour-long episodes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings.

However, this week saw a significant disruption as Coronation Street was moved from its usual Wednesday (27 August) slot. Instead of the normal schedule, the popular programme aired from 8pm to 9pm on Monday evening (25 August), Tuesday evening (26 August) and will also broadcast at the same time on Friday (29 August).

This change in schedule is due to ITV's live coverage of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday , featuring a match between Grimsby Town and Manchester United . Viewers were understandably puzzled on Wednesday when they couldn't find the episode usually available early on ITVX.

On a Corrie Facebook fan page, one viewer asked: "Why isn't Corrie on tonight?

Can't find tonight's episode on ITVX." Another added: "It's not on because of the football."

This week, intense drama has unfolded in Weatherfield for several residents, particularly trainee paramedic Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey).

The US has pulled the plug on a long-running global tariff exemption that has been widely used by buyers of low-cost goods.

From Friday, imports valued at $800 (£592) or less will no longer be duty-free and will face tighter customs checks, in a move set to affect millions of shipments a day.

Last year, almost 1.4 billion packages - worth a total of more than $64bn - entered America without being charged duties under a rule called the de minimis exemption, according to US Customs.

⁘I've reached the point of acceptance, but when I first heard the news about two and half, three weeks ago, I felt like it might be the end for my business,⁘ said Katherine Theobalds, founder and creative director of Buenos Aires-based shoe brand Zou Xou. ⁘It still might - that remains to be seen.⁘

De minimis is a Latin term that broadly translates to ⁘about the smallest things⁘, often used in legal contexts to describe matters too trivial to merit concern.

The de minimis exemption was introduced in 1938 to avoid the expense of collecting only small amounts of import duties in the US.

The rule's threshold rose over the years, allowing e-commerce firms and global retailers that ship small packages to the US to thrive.

The exemption was often associated with companies like Chinese e-commerce giants Shein and Temu, which delivered Americans cheap goods that could be quickly shipped from the manufacturing source - with no warehouse stock or associated overhead costs.

TWO more names have been confirmed for the highly anticipated crossover episode with Brookside and Hollyoaks - as fan excitement continues to build.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that the iconic soap, which saw some of it's stars reunite earlier this year , was being revived for a special episode to commemorate Hollyoaks' 30 th anniversary.

Now it's been announced that John McArdle and Paul Usher will be reprising their roles as Billy Corkhill and Barry Grant respectively.

Speaking of his return, John, who has also starred on Emmerdale , expressed: "It's going to be a nostalgic visit back to the famous close. Also I've got to try and find the character of Billy Corkhill again as I haven't played him for 35 years!⁘

Meanwhile, Paul, who has also starred on EastEnders, was part of the original cast from the very first episode in 1982, playing the character of Barry for 13 years.

He later returned for a brief stint in 1997 and again in 1998 before coming back for the show's final episode in 2003.

Paul admitted he was "looking forward to seeing all of the old faces," but it remains to be seen which other characters will be coming back for the one-off special.

This announcement comes after it was previously revealed that actress Sue Johnston would be reprising her role as matriarch Sheila Grant , the wife of John's character Billy.

The de minimis exemption for cross-border shipments to the United States ended Friday, and London-area small businesses with American customers are concerned what it could mean for their sales.

Those shipments will now be subject to duties of up to $200 US, depending on the country of origin, and Canadian small businesses with American customers will be smacked with extra costs that eat into their profits.

For Daniel Phillips, owner of the London-based clothing shop Illbury and Goose, the ups and downs of US trade this year have been challenging to keep up with.

⁘With these things actually being in place now, it's kind of a learning curve every day,⁘ he said. ⁘We've got to think on our toes and be nimble and see what we can do.⁘ 

While U.S. customers are not their main base, some products sell pretty well there, like t-shirts and hoodies, and lately the store has been getting a lot of U.S. orders for their soap products, Phillips said.

⁘Hopefully there are customers who are loyal there and are going to still want the product or still be able to get it,⁘ he said. ⁘If they want to keep purchasing, it's just that extra little fee. It's kind of the way the world's going right now, right?⁘

Israeli government representatives will not be invited to attend a London arms fair, a UK government spokesperson said on Friday, amid worsening diplomatic relations between Britain and Israel over Gaza.

Israeli defence companies will still be allowed to attend the biennial event.

But Israel slammed the move taken against officials as "discrimination".

Prime Minister Keir Starmer's government has in recent months suspended arms export licences to Israel for use in Gaza, suspended trade talks with Israel and sanctioned two far-right Israeli ministers in protest at the conduct of the war.

"There must be a diplomatic solution to end this war now, with an immediate ceasefire, the return of the hostages and a surge in humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza," it added.

Stretching just over two miles between HS2's London and Chiltern tunnels, the impressive structure was constructed using a thousand concrete deck segments, each weighing a hefty 140 tonnes - more than the average weight of the world's largest animal, the blue whale.

Work on the bridge began in 2021, with construction teams and their machines tirelessly building over the Colne Valley Park near Denham. Once trains start running , passengers leaving London will be treated to their first views of the countryside from the bridge .

Trains will be able to travel at speeds of up to 200mph, crossing the entire viaduct in a mere 38 seconds.

The design of the bridge, one of the largest single civil engineering works of HS2 Phase One, was inspired by the image of a stone skipping across water, with a series of spans carrying the railway 10m above the lakes, river and canal.

Naz Huseinmiya, one of the construction managers, expressed her pride in working on the project to The Telegraph, saying: ⁘I worked on Crossrail a decade ago and now I use the Elizabeth Line myself.⁘ She added: ⁘I love seeing the infrastructure you've helped create used by millions of people.⁘

Fellow engineer Katy Hodgson echoed this sentiment, stating: ⁘I love it.

Every time I go by, I nod to it and say, 'I built that'⁘. The Colne Valley Viaduct, completed in August 2025 at a cost of £1.6 billion, has taken the title of the UK's longest railway bridge from Scotland's Tay Bridge. The viaduct, along with the nearly 10-mile Chiltern Tunnel, is part of the HS2 project, reports the Express .

Post-construction, the factory and surrounding buildings will be removed, transforming the entire area between the viaduct and the Chiltern Hills tunnel into chalk grassland and woodland.

This transformation is part of HS2's 'Green Corridor' initiative.

HS2's Phase One, which will link London and Birmingham, promises a travel time of just 49 minutes. It is expected to be operational between 2029 and 2033.

Danniella Westbrook , 49, who initially arrived on Albert Square in 1990 as Sam Mitchell, has confessed she would only consider returning to Walford if her legendary character was given control of the Queen Vic.

A recent report found London wages were 33 per cent higher than the national average and as high as 68 per cent more than in Burnley, a town in the north-west of the country.

But what about football? Do London clubs hold an advantage when it comes to signing prospective players?

Well, there has certainly been a geographical shift in where the Premier League's clubs are based.

Last season, there was a record-low number of northern clubs — just five — since the league's rebranding in 1992. Conversely, there were seven London clubs and a further three from the south (Southampton, Bournemouth, and Brighton), meaning half the division came from London or further south.

All 12 clubs from the first Football League in 1888 were exclusively from the Midlands and further north. West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa were the two most southerly teams in a landscape that reflected where many of the country's industrial powerhouses still were.

That remained the case for the next 16 years until Woolwich Arsenal became the top flight's first London away day in 1904. The only other southerly club in the top two divisions (comprising 36 teams) at that time were Bristol City, in the Second Division, but Chelsea (1907) and Tottenham Hotspur (1909) soon followed Arsenal into the top flight.

One of the screenplay writers, Katy Brand, says the movie mixes "serious, heartfelt warmth" and moments of silliness, humour and satire.

"This whole sort of genre that we have in this country of the sort of Sunday night crime drama... where amateur sleuthing goes on, but it's also got mischief to it."

As for the future, with three more novels in the series already out and a fifth instalment from Osman planned for autumn, he hopes there will be more films.

The two-day Notting Hill Carnival is under way in west London as the streets are filled with colourful costumes, dancing and music.

Europe's biggest street party, which has been running for more than 50 years, is an annual event over the summer bank holiday weekend and helps celebrate Caribbean culture and history.

The festival began early with the J'ouvert celebration, where people covered each other in paint, coloured powder and chocolate.

Festival chairman Ian Comfort told the crowd he was pleased the carnival was happening after its future was in jeopardy because of funding challenges earlier this year.

Emmerdale's Lawrence Robb revealed a filming detail about Mackenzie Boyd's long-awaited flashforward scene.

The actor plays Mackenzie Boyd in the Yorkshire-based soap and made his debut back in 2020. Over the last five years, viewers watched as his relationship with Charity Dingle almost implodes after his infidelity.

It seems the United Kingdom has set its sights on the biggest sporting event in the United States.

During an appearance on C-SPAN is week , the United Kingdom's ambassador to the United States Peter Mandelson suggested that the biggest single day spectacle in sports should be held on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.

"I've made a big pitch for the first Super Bowl outside the U.S. to take place in Britain," Mandelson told the Chicago Council on Global Affairs on Thursday.

"I want that Super Bowl in Britain. I don't care when it takes place, but I want it announced during my time as ambassador.

We love it. We love it."

The audience mostly reacted with shock and laughs, but considering the NFL's increasingly aggressive push to expand football globally , it's not the craziest suggestion.

The NFL has been playing regular-season games in London since 2007, which was the first official game ever held outside North America.

In 2025, three games will take place in London: one at Wembley Stadium and two at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in October.

A total of seven games will be played internationally this season with Ireland, Germany, Spain and Brazil also hosting.

If a Super Bowl was to take place outside the U.S., which to date has never happened, London could be a potential host. But it won't happen soon.

Farmers in the driest parts of the UK are facing some of their worst ever harvests as the heatwave continues to hit crop and vegetable yields.

Broccoli growers are particularly struggling with a lack of water and bone-dry soils, with yields cut by more than 50%, quality affected and shoppers warned to expect smaller vegetables on the shelves.

One Herefordshire grower told the BBC there could be supply shortages if sustained rainfall does not come soon.

The British Growers Association said supplies of brassicas – including broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage - were ⁘tight⁘ but better harvests in wetter parts of the UK should ensure vegetables still make it to the supermarkets.

The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU), an independent think tank, is now warning that the UK is on course to see its sixth or seventh worst harvest since records began 40 years ago.

Although the overall harvest picture is mixed across the UK, farmers in parts of the country that have seen little rain and have low river levels - and who are growing produce in lighter, drier soil that does not hold moisture well - are seeing substantial shortfalls.

Ben Andrews, who has a mixed organic farm growing broccoli near Leominster, Herefordshire, told the BBC that shoppers will have to ⁘shift their expectations⁘ about the size and shape of the vegetables in supermarkets.

He added, as it was also too hot for brassicas to be grown abroad and imported to the UK, there could also be issues with shortages.

A STATE school in one of London's poorest boroughs has outperformed Eton with 250 straight As on A level results day.

Dozens of pupils at the East Ham school defied the odds to gain places at universities such as Oxford , Cambridge , Imperial and UCL.

The remarkable achievement eclipsed some of the richest schools in the country such as Eton College despite significantly less resources.

Over 250 students at a London academy have achieved straight A grades as the successful school celebrated its best-ever results.

The school in Newham, one of London's poorest boroughs, became famous for sending more students to Oxbridge than Eton.

More than 400 have earned places at the esteemed establishments in the 12 years since it opened its sixth form in 2012.

At Brampton Manor Academy last year 150 students achieved straight A* grades, while 349 pupils received either an A* or A in all their subjects.

Many of the high achievers at the school are from ethnic minority backgrounds, in receipt of free school meals or will be their family's first to attend university.

One student at Brampton Manor, Mate-Stefan Berghes, achieved four straight A*s and will study Engineering Science at the   University of Oxford.

Cornwall, with its golden beaches, extensive coastline, ample surfing opportunities, and dramatic cliffs — draws millions of visitors annually. UK travel and food content creator George Kimm recently detailed his trip to the picturesque county — causing quite a stir in the process.

He embarked on an overnight sleeper train journey from London to Cornwall, documenting his adventure on Instagram . George took the Great Western Railway (GWR) Night Riviera service, which departs from London Paddington and arrives in Penzance by morning, with the entire trip lasting just over eight hours.

The travel aficionado gave an honest review of his journey. However, one key detail left his Instagram followers stunned – the cost.

George booked a "very cozy" private cabin on the service, equipped with a single bed, a table that also served as a washbasin, a wardrobe, and under-bed storage, which he found "very useful". GWR also provided several amenities, including soap, according to CornwallLive, reported Bristol Live .

George noted that the restrooms are located outside the cabins.

But apart from that, he felt the rail operator "really had thought of everything else".

The London-based content creator commented: "Before we left London Paddington I had a look in the onboard bar where you can sit down, relax. They also provide free tea and coffee with biscuits and when it comes to going to sleep, I actually had a really good experience."

After settling in and doing a bit of exploration, George watched the train pull out of the station before turning in for the night.

He shared that he enjoyed the sounds and movement of the train, which helped lull him to sleep.

Upon waking up the next morning, George had breakfast, which was included with his cabin. He opted for a cup of tea and a sausage bap, describing it as "very delicious".

We got a touch of new Florence + The Machine last year, when the group was featured on ⁘Florida!!!⁘ from Taylor Swift's album The Tortured Poets Department . The band's latest proper album, though, is 2022's Dance Fever . Now it looks like that might be changing soon, as a teaser video shared this morning (August 11) may indicate.

The clip shows Florence Welch on her hands and knees in an overgrown field, wearing a red dress and digging away at a spot in the ground. The video then cuts to a hole-POV shot of Welch looking into it before she repeatedly and intensely screams.

In a more recent British Vogue chat , she said of her Swift collab, ⁘I almost didn't think of the scale of it.

A beloved character on EastEnders has handed in her notice and has already secured fresh employment.

Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton) has remained a cornerstone of the BBC soap since making her first appearance in 2005. As Billy's (Perry Fenwick) other half, she's been central to numerous major plot lines.

From her romance with Billy through to her eating disorder storyline, Honey's journey in Albert Square has been packed with compelling drama.

This is particularly true at present, with the programme recently revealing a significant development for the character.

Viewers will remember that several years ago, Honey departed her role at the Minute Mart to become Walford's market inspector, ensuring all the local stallholders stayed in line.

More recently, she had her sights set on securing Mr Lister's senior market inspector position, following his announcement that he planned to step down in the coming months after years of supervising the traders, reports Plymouth Live .

Mr Lister had previously suggested that Honey might take over from him, and during Thursday's instalment (August 14) Honey decided to go for it and arranged to meet with Mr Lister at the café.

However, matters took an unexpected turn when he disclosed that he wasn't actually in a position to step down.

Incensed, Honey subsequently expressed her frustration to Billy, insisting she'd been overlooked for the promotion due to her gender.
