Why Businesses And Retailers Should Pay Attention

Image Reference: Visit website

For decades, South by Southwest (SXSW) has been more than just a festival. What started as a local music event in Austin, Texas, in 1987 has grown into one of the world's most influential platforms for tech, culture, and innovation. It has been a launchpad for startups, a showcase for cultural trends, and a meeting ground for industries shaping the future.

Now, SXSW is coming to London in June 2025, its first European edition more than just an expansion, it marks a shift in how business, creativity, and commerce intersect.

This comes at a time when the UK's creative industries are being recognised as a major economic driver. The sector contributes more than £100 billion annually to the economy, employing over two million people, spanning fashion, film, music, advertising, and design. The UK is a global leader in creative exports, from its powerhouse music industry to its world-renowned television and film production.

Just this week, VisitBritain launched its new 'Starring GREAT Britain' campaign, celebrating the country's role as a backdrop to some of the world's biggest films and TV shows, from Mission: Impossible to House of the Dragon. The campaign, led by Academy Award-winning director Tom Hooper, showcases how Britain's culture, landscapes, and creativity continue to inspire global audiences. With inbound tourism already valued at £74 billion, this initiative further cements Britain's reputation as a creative powerhouse and an essential destination for cultural and commercial innovation.

The UK's capital has long been a hub for fashion, technology, retail, and culture, making it a natural fit. But this isn't just about geography; it's about the way industries are converging.

For businesses and retailers, SXSW London is an opportunity to do more than just stay informed it's a chance to be part of what comes next. Announcing Canva as a major sponsor reinforces the festival's focus on the intersection of creativity, technology, and business, highlighting the role of visual storytelling and digital engagement in shaping the modern consumer experience.

Reese Witherspoon Says British Actress Ended Friendship After Being Roasted

The ⁘Big Little Lies⁘ star says she's ⁘still embarrassed⁘ over making ribald jokes at an event she describes as ⁘British, elegant, classy.⁘

"It haunts me, it literally haunts me," the actress shared in a recent interview with PEOPLE about a comedic awards speech that went wrong. "So this friend of mine, who I didn't really know that well, but she was a very serious, proper actress. She asked me to give her an award, but I had never been to this award ceremony, so I thought it was like a roast. So I got up and I roasted her."

⁘The tone was British, elegant, classy,⁘ Witherspoon explained, ⁘and I was like, 'Remember the time we got laser hair removal?'⁘

Witherspoon has opened up about her anxiety around public speaking before. She wrote a post for Sheryl Sandberg's blog in 2013 that explained that while "speaking in character on a crowded movie set" was never a problem, "giving a speech" in front of an impartial crowd used to be a prospect that "terrified" her.

But it's a fear she's since conquered, writing that she's become ⁘a firm believer that action can solve so many worries, and just powering through, no matter what, can give you the confidence you need when you feel like you've got nothing to offer.⁘

How The ‘Bag Of Sugar' Scam Really Works

Image Read more: Visit website

A cruel new scam is leaving shoppers horribly disappointed at the very moment they should be enjoying a new purchase.

British shoppers who have bought high-value items such as laptops, tablets and iPhones open their package to find worthless items inside – ranging from a bag of sugar or meat pies to a lump of clay.

So why are British shoppers being left with weighty but worthless items instead of what they ordered? It's often to do with changes in returns policies on marketplaces such as Amazon, which make it far easier to return goods, online safety experts told Yahoo News.

A woman from Cornwall opened the box for a new Lenovo laptop and found three pies in the package instead, while a mother from Leeds opened a packet supposedly containing a Samsung tablet and found two packs of biscuits and a bag of sugar.

There are various reasons a package could arrive not containing the advertised goods (including couriers stealing the contents).

But increasingly in recent years, the 'refund' scam is due to resellers not checking returned packages, Bischoff explained.

So a scammer buys a laptop or other expensive item, replaces it with something weighing roughly the same, the return is accepted by the seller, and then an unwitting buyer becomes the owner of a bag of sugar or a lump of clay.

Online refunds are often processed rapidly and sometimes without checking, if the parcels appear unopened.

A MEXICAN actress has gone viral after shocking before and after pictures showed her dramatic transformation.

Lyn May, real name Lilia Guadalupe Mendiola, began her career as an exotic cabaret dancer , before moving to on-screen roles in Mexican films including Tívoli and Las Ficheras.

At the height of her fame in the 1990s, she decided to explore the idea of getting plastic surgery to maintain her youthful appearance.

When she went to get fillers for the first time, a substance not approved for cosmetic use was injected into her face - resulting in swelling, abscesses and permanent disfigurement.

Lyn has claimed that instead of filler, she was injected with a mixture of cooking oil, baby oil and water.

While she has since undergone numerous procedures in a bid to reverse the damage, they have largely all been unsuccessful.

One surgeon did manage to remove some of the oil that had been injected, but he was unable to do so without leaving a permanent mark on the screen star's face.

According to reports, Lyn has recently started working with a ⁘legitimate doctor who is helping her reverse some of the effects of what happened to her⁘.

A UK celebrity version of The Traitors is said to be coming to screens soon just days after the third season of the BBC show wrapped up last week.

The BBC confirmed the news at the Edinburgh TV Festival in August last year and a fourth series with members of the public will also air with applications to apply for the show open now.

However, it is not yet known when the Celebrity Traitors will be made or broadcast - and while a cast has also not yet been revealed, there are already some big names in the rumoured mix.

According to Betfred worker Kayley Cornelius: ⁘Three clear frontrunners have already emerged in the betting markets to join Claudia Winkleman on The Traitors celebrity spin-off.⁘

These three celebs are Rebekah Vardy, Rylan Clark and Clare Balding, who are all leading the betting markets to appear on the show. Their odds are all currently priced at evens (1/1) to join the upcoming series.

However, they are not the only big names on bookmaker's lists as other early favourites include actor Stephen Fry at 6/4, followed by sibling duo Daisy May Cooper and Charlie Cooper at 2/1.

Lord Alan Sugar Calls Out Huge BBC EastEnders Blunder - 'It's Getting Silly'

Image Reference: Found here

Lord Alan Sugar has taken to social media to share his thoughts on a recent EastEnders storyline, poking fun at the ongoing Bianca plot.

In a tweet, Lord Sugar questioned the logic of the storyline, writing: "I think the Bianca plot is getting a bit silly now. I mean who empties the bucket? Reese? @bbceastenders.⁘

Fans were divided, with some agreeing with Lord Sugar and others defending the soap. One user tweeted: "Agreed. Yeah, I think Reiss empties the bucket, unless he's got a portaloo stashed in there or she goes in a sink or something."

Another user, also pointing out flaws in the storyline, added: "I find it hard not to disagree with you on that. Interestingly, Bianca somehow managed to change her cardi and have clean and straightened hair while being chained up for weeks. Also, how Sonia is blind to see Reiss behaviour every time she mentions Bianca's name."

This follows Lord Sugar's recent comments about the future of his hit reality show The Apprentice. The 77-year-old businessman admitted he's unsure whether the show will continue, hinting it could potentially come to an end.

Speaking in a PR interview ahead of the 19th series, Lord Sugar expressed uncertainty about his future with the show, saying: ⁘I honestly don't know. I have to see how I feel. I mean, I'm getting older, I'm nearly 78-years-old.⁘

He continued: ⁘So it really depends; so long as I've got my health and strength... I've always said I will carry on as long as the BBC wants me to. It's also a consideration that it's not my call, it's the BBC's call.⁘

Is Primark 'Too Expensive'? Shopping Influencers Say Store Is 'Not What It Used To Be' As They...

Image More details: Found here

It's difficult to imagine the great British high street without hoardes of shoppers lining up to secure bargains in the shoppers' favourite budget retailer, Primark.

But the brand's own recent figures appear to have suggested it has fallen into a 'slump' as its owner takes aim at Rachel Reeves 's budget for hitting consumer confidence.

The company has slashed forecasts for the its sales this year after a disappointing performance over the crucial Christmas  trading period. But amid fashion influencers' complaints that they feel the brand is more expensive than it once was, Primark insists shoppers won't find better deals 'anywhere else on the high street'.

Associated British Foods (ABF) - which owns Primark - blamed 'weak' trading activity on 'cautious consumer sentiment and a lack of seasonal purchasing catalyst given the mild autumn weather' after posting a six per cent fall in like-for-like sales during the last three months of the year.

Eoin Tonge, finance director at ABF, said there was 'more pressure on lower income consumers' which may have affected the company's trading figures.

However, shoppers and experts have claimed other factors may also be at play in Primark's latest figures, as some customers claim the chain is 'not what it used to be' - and many flock to online outlets like Shein and Temu instead.

YouTubers who brandish huge brown paper bags adorned with the company's recognisable blue lettering in shopping roundup and 'try on' videos are increasingly being replaced with Instagrammers unsheathing Shein's distinct transparent plastic packages for their viewers.

One social media creator slammed the brand in a video, admitting she was 'shocked' at some of the prices when visiting

But where you live can make all the difference. The number of parks, gyms, walking trails, health stores a city has, as well as air pollution levels, all contribute to how accessible exercising and following a balanced diet can be. Health experts over at ZAVA have therefore analysed all of these factors and ranked each city out of a final score of 10. Surprisingly, London only managing to scoop 7.66 - pipped by the likes of Nottingham, Islington, Bristol, and Glasgow. However, it was Edinburgh that topped the league tables with an impressive score of 8.49.

The Scottish capital was hailed for having an 'abundance of green spaces and low pollution levels' along with a staggering 1,765 parks - making a simple stroll in the evening accessible for many. ⁘From the iconic Princes Street Gardens to the serene Holyrood Park, these green spaces provide ample outdoor activities, relaxation, and exercise against the stunning backdrop of Edinburgh Castle and Arthur's Seat,⁘ Zava said in a statement sent to the Mirror .

Edinburgh also has a slew of 'health-focused stores' and 'relatively clean air' compared to other cities. Dr Crystal Wyllie says this mix of 'green spaces, fitness options and health resources' all support an 'active lifestyle'. ⁘With plenty of parks, gyms and healthy stores, these cities create the right environment for both physical and mental health,⁘ She added.

⁘Consistency is the real game-changer. Small, simple changes that you can stick to over time will lead to lasting improvements. As we head into the new year, taking advantage of what's around you and finding balance will help set the stage for a healthier, more fulfilling year ahead.⁘

Bristol came in second with a respectable 8.36, missing out on gold only for its lack of parks (431). Glasgow was ranked third thanks to having the most fitness facilities out of any UK city - while Reading and Belfast came joint fourth.

Many were not happy to see Bear in the bottom two, however. One fan fumed: ⁘Bear should not have been in the bottom 2.⁘

Teeth's departure leaves seven contestants still in the running - Wolf, Snail, Bush, Kingfisher, Bear, Dressed Crab and Pufferfish.

It seems the mystery celebs  this year are certainly giving the ITV show's judges a run for their money.

The Masked Singer   is available on   ITVX   and STV Player, while the new instalment of the singing competition airs on ITV   next Saturday.

The Masked Singer fans have spotted EIGHT clues 'revealing' Pufferfish's identity as a nepo baby singer with a nineties music legend mum.

Charlie was part of the popular band  Busted  from 2000 to 2005 when he left to pursue a solo career after also playing in Fightstar.

In February 2023, viewers were left impressed when the musician was  unmasked as Rhino on The Masked Singer UK .

Sealed' For Icon 39 Years After Debut In Aaron Dingle Twist | TV & Radio...

Emmerdale fans are predicting a surprise comeback for a beloved character, which could leave Aaron Dingle (played by Danny Miller) stunned.

Since his first appearance in 2008, Aaron has become a fan favourite with numerous significant storylines under his belt, including affairs, a romance with Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), and time spent in prison.

Currently, he's in an on-and-off relationship with newcomer John Sugden (Oliver Fainworth), who is Robert's half-brother.

However, in the episode aired on January 24, they realised their cover-up was flawed as they failed to remove Anthony's car from the village.

This has led to fan speculation that John might frame Aaron in a shocking twist. Some viewers, however, believe this could pave the way for a reunion between Aaron and Robert, albeit behind bars.

Robert Sugden and Aaron Dingle's romance has been one of Emmerdale 's most cherished storylines, with the couple first sparking a connection in 2015 and eventually marrying in 2018.

Jaime Winstone is set to reprise the role of Peggy Mitchell as she returns to EastEnders in an upcoming episode as part of P hil's ongoing mental health storyline .

Coronation Street's Charlotte Jordan's Four-word Comment After Quitting ITV Soap

Image More details: Visit website

Coronation Street star Charlotte Jordan has proved she is still working on the ITV soap - weeks after announcing she had quit.

Fans were left devastated earlier this month when Charlotte, 30, revealed she was walking away from the cobbles after five years of service. She has played Daisy Midgeley on the ITV soap since 2020 but will exit the series later this year.

Over the years, fans have watched Daisy engage in a disastrous relationship with Daniel Osbourne, played by Rob Mallard , and was involved in a terrifying stalker plot. But viewers will soon have to wave goodbye to the character as Charlotte has vowed to quit the show in search of more exiting work.

However, she still has some work to do in Weatherfield, and ahead of the weekend she proved that she is still filming her final scenes. Corrie traditionally films weeks in advance of episodes airing, so even once Charlotte wraps on the show, there will still be a reasonable amount of time before her last ever scene makes it to air.

On Friday, she took to Instagram Stories and shared a photograph of herself on set. Dazzling studio lights could be seen hanging over her head, while fans would easily recognise the walls of the Rover's Return around her.

Charlotte captioned the image, writing: ⁘Thank god it's Friday.⁘ The photo showed her wearing a cream jumper and with her hands in a rock n roll pose while grimacing at the camera.

The actress previously shared her news that she was quitting the show. She revealed in a statement two weeks ago: ⁘My time at Coronation Street is something I'll always cherish. After a brilliant four years for Daisy, it's time for me to start a new chapter and explore other opportunities.⁘

She added: ⁘It's been a privilege to be part of a wonderful institution with even more wonderful colleagues who have taught me so much.⁘ The news left fans distraught - but Charlotte is hardly the only cast member to walk away from the show.

I Quit The 9-5 And Learned How To Forage In London

'I liked the job, and there were really lovely people. But every day I would stare out the window thinking, "when is this going to end?"' Louise tells Metro. 'I was so bored. I just wanted to be outside.'

Taking such a big step into the unknown was daunting, but looking back, Louise now 44, says she felt huge relief. 'It's really pivotal when you realise you're in the wrong place, and I love change,' she explains.

'Mum taught me about picking mushrooms and what plants were edible or poisonous,' Louise recalls. 'She would show us where all the white raspberries were, and the red ones, and the blackberries and what we could do with them. She knows the name and the Latin name of every single plant ever. She's 82 and a walking encyclopedia.'

The landscape on Mull has 'harshness and softness', adds Louise. 'You have mountains and woodland, and beautiful wild land in between that's not cultivated at all.

'There are deer and lots of stags making a real racket, sea eagles and golden eagles, there are no foxes or badgers, but there are otters and seals. It's magical.'

Moving back home after quitting her job helped her rediscover this love, but money was low. 'I rented a cottage in the grounds of a castle that was just in front of the tide. The tide would come up almost to the door, which was beautiful but it also meant there was water running down the inside of the cottage. It was so damp.'

⁘Loved the little time we shared on set, thank you for trusting me with little Roman⁘ before tagging in the tots mum.

In a second snap , the pair laughed together as she added: ⁘Playing a mommy on screen was fun, and so was running around on set with this little one inbetween takes.⁘

Don't miss... Masked Singer fans spot clue 'everyone missed' that points to Bush's identity [LATEST]

Delivering stunning renditions ranging from 'You've Got to Pick a Pocket or Two' from Oliver! to Will Smith's hit 'Miami', Bear has showcased eclectic vocals across musical theatre and rap, reports the Mirror.

Hints have swirled around the creature's ties to stage, including West End, football, and comedy - stirring up diverse guesses including Patrick Stewart, Tom Davis, David Harewood, Example, Doc Brown and Richard Blackwood.

Blackwood played coy about the speculation when addressed on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday (January 21), remarking: "That's how I'd do it if I was to do it."

The EastEnders sensation hinted that Bear's "swagger" might be the reason for his suspicion and cheekily suggested that "it's hot" inside the suit, quickly appending: "So I've heard." Could he be toying with us?

BBC EastEnders Drops Huge Clue Who Attacked Cindy Beale As Key Evidence Found

EastEnders fans are sure they now know who attacked Cindy Beale - as key evidence was found this evening.

Tonight's episode of the BBC soap again focused around Cindy's shock attack. Earlier this week, fans suspected Ian Beale might be to blame for the attack on Cindy as he pulled a smirking face when he told his partner he'd ⁘always protect⁘ her.

Taking to Reddit, fans discussed the big storyline - with one writing: ⁘They're making it a bit obvious now with the shovel being in the barrel store with blood on it, wasn't Anna or George or Linda or Annie or Ollie, Gina was probably on another bender with someone then that leaves just Elaine and Kojo.

⁘Everyone would say Kojo for the reasons they've stated but Elaine family unit has been torn apart yet again by Cindy and she also asked George would she cover for him. However I'd probably still think Kojo as he probably thought it'd be a good place to hid it and also didn't think to wash the blood off. The only other doubt that it wasn't was that the barrel store was left open.⁘

ITV Issues A New Scam Warning To Coronation Street And Emmerdale Fans

The broadcaster has previously shared concerns about a rise in fake soap star social media accounts, and in a new Instagram post has urged viewers to be ⁘vigilant⁘.

⁘Please be aware that actors from both Coronation Street and Emmerdale are currently being impersonated by scammers across all social media platforms,⁘ the statement read.

⁘No cast member will ever directly request money for messages, meetings or any kind of personal interaction on social media.⁘

ITV said it is ⁘aware⁘ that ⁘these sophisticated impersonations can include deep-fake footage (where it appears to be the actor talking but isn't) and personal messages which seem to be realistic and in character⁘.

⁘We urge everybody to be vigilant,⁘ it added. ⁘Please report any concerns to the relevant platform. The legitimate way of meeting with real members of the cast is via official 'meet and greet' events run by ITV Star Tours.⁘

Last summer, the broadcaster said that these scams were happening ⁘more frequently⁘ and added fans should ⁘take great care when conversing on social media⁘.

Among those who have had their likeness used is Emmerdale 's Lisa Riley, who revealed both in 2023 and last year that fans had been targeted.

Khan's Night Tsar Starts '24hr Cities' Business - After Failing To Revive London Night...

After stepping down last October , Amy Lamé now lists herself as a founding director of 24hr Cities on her LinkedIn, calling it a "global consultancy".

Her LinkedIn profile says: "As the first ever Night Czar for London and the first in the UK, I worked in partnership with stakeholders to ensure that London thrives as a 24-hour city, keeping it vibrant, safe, and diverse from 6pm to 6am."

However, Ms Lamé was widely criticised throughout her tenure for not doing enough to stem the closure of swathes of pubs, bars and restaurants in the capital.

Approximately 3,000 of London's nightclubs shut from 2020 to 2023 , according to the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA), while the number of London pubs, bars and nightclubs to hold a 24-hour licence plunged by more than two thirds in 2023 and 2024 compared with the previous two years, dropping from 183 to 58 according to a recent BBC analysis of Home Office data.

Last year social media users took up the hashtag 'LameLondon' in protest, sharing pictures of empty venues and sparsely-populated streets. "No pints after 22:30. You cannot have any fun. T⁘Cs apply," one poster wrote on X.

London Businesses Cautiously Optimistic Despite Budget Woes

London businesses remain cautiously optimistic about their profitability and turnover prospects in 2025, despite mounting cost pressures and concerns over recent Budget policies, according to the Capital 500 , London's quarterly economic survey conducted by the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).

However, optimism varied by business size. Profitability expectations among micro firms (0–9 employees) increased from +25 in Q3 to +31 in Q4, while larger firms (10+ employees) reported a more cautious outlook, with expectations falling from +59 to +52 in the same period.

Despite this cautious optimism, economic confidence has decreased markedly. The net balance for confidence in overall company prospects fell from +29 in Q3 to +15 in Q4, marking the lowest figure recorded since 2023. While businesses remain optimistic about their own prospects, confidence in the overall UK economy for 2025 has plummeted. Predictions for economic health took a sharp 23-point drop in Q4 to -4, reflecting growing concerns about measures announced in the Autumn Budget and the Employment Rights Bill. Only 31% of businesses now believe the UK economy will improve over the next 12 months, a stark reminder of the uncertainty that businesses face heading into the new year.

"To drive long-term growth, the Government must address business concerns around rising employer costs, reduced business rates relief, and the Employment Rights Bill. Stability, certainty, and supportive policies are crucial for London's businesses to invest, innovate, and contribute to the UK's prosperity."

Primark Sales Target Slashed After 'Challenging' Christmas For UK High Street

Image Read more: See here

Primark has cut its sales expectations as ⁘cautious⁘ UK shoppers and wet weather weighed on performance.

Its parent company, Associated British Foods (ABF), reported a downturn in UK sales in recent months as financial strains continue to grip households. On Thursday, ABF informed investors that it now aims for ⁘low single-digit⁘ growth for Primark by 2025, downscaling its ambitions from the ⁘mid single-digit growth⁘ projected in November.

Sales for ABF's mainly Primark-based retail sector dipped slightly by 0.4% to £3.36bn for the 16 weeks leading to January 4—a 1.9% increase if currency fluctuations are held constant.

In the UK and Ireland, Primark experienced a 4% decrease in sales, with comparable sales witnessing a sharper 6% fall. A tough retail climate in the UK over the festive period intensified after softer autumn trade, exacerbated by subdued consumer confidence and milder weather which hindered sales of typically popular autumn items like coats and jackets throughout October and November.

This dip in the UK market was counterbalanced by advances in countries including Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, and the US. ABF's extensive operations encompassing grocery, sugar, and agriculture sectors also felt the pinch, with total sales across the group declining by 2.2% to £6.73BN for the 16-week span. Within the grocery division, home to household names like Ryvita, Twinings, and Pataks, there was a 1.8% fall in sales to £1.39bn.

The company reported that strong growth from international brands, such as Twinings and Ovaltine, was partially offset by a decrease in certain US and UK-focused brands. In the UK, total sales fell due to weaker sales from its Allied Bakeries division, which produces Kingsmill bread.

Having withdrawn from his family and friends in recent months following Sharon's newfound relationship with his cousin Teddy, the breakdown of his marriage to Kat, and Ben's incarceration in America, viewers will continue to see Phil's mental health decline as he attempts to hide his depression from those around him.

EastEnders Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw says: "Phil's depression storyline will focus on his decline in mental health and the subsequent psychotic symptoms, and the reaction of those around him, as we hope to demonstrate how mental health can affect anyone at any time. Steve's performance is nothing short of extraordinary and has thoughtfully portrayed the complex realties of depression, and the experience of psychotic symptoms, with compassion and understanding."

Lorna Fraser, Head of Samaritans' Media Advice Service, says: "The EastEnders team has done a great job capturing the reality of a mental health crisis, and we were delighted to help them tell Phil's story in a safe and responsible way. The nature of a soap makes it possible to present sensitive topics in uniquely engaging ways through characters audiences can relate to. We know men often struggle to open up and share how they are feeling, so it's good to show the importance of checking in and lending a listening ear in this way."

A group of masked men stormed a west London cinema shouting 'down with India' during a Bollywood film leaving customers 'terrified'.

Footage shows the group interrupting a screening of the film 'Emergency' at Harrow Vue Cinema on Sunday night.

Saloni Belaid, who had bought tickets to the film, said the men had pushed themselves past staff members and shouted 'down with India' after the film was dibbed 'anti-Sikh'.

She said: 'It was really chaotic and scary. Ninety-five per cent of the audience cleared out while they were intimidating everyone whereas my friends and I stayed to confront them.

'This was masked men shouting in the dark – we didn't what their intentions were. It was frightening.'

She told Times of India cinema staff did not come to help, and despite police arriving within 10 minutes they did not stop the group as they were exercising their right to protest.

Saloni said the men were part of the Khalistan separatist movement which aims to create a homeland for Sikhs.

The Hindi film Emergency has been dubbed 'Anti-Sikh' with protests also being held across the Midlands.

Rashmi Chaubey, who posted the footage onto Facebook , said: 'It's a completely frightening and intimidating experience when 20+ men with masked faces and carrying a kirpan entered and blocked the exit in a dark theatre.

Plowright made her on-screen debut in 1956's Moby Dick before gaining wider recognition in the 1960 film adaptation of The Entertainer alongside Laurence Olivier, whom she later married.

During her long stage and screen career, Plowright also received nominations for an Academy Award, an Emmy, and two BAFTA Awards.

"She enjoyed a long and illustrious career across theater, film and TV over seven decades until blindness made her retire," the statement said.

In a 2018 BBC documentary, Plowright recalled playing the character Beatie Bryant in the 1959 theater production Roots and the rare thrill in that era of being a female lead.

"Beatie is the center of attention, the center of the story instead of being on the side, the decoration bit, the support," Plowright said. "The female is absolutely at the center of it and it's that feeling of elation, exhilaration when you know you're in charge." — Reuters

Can⁘t Afford To Turn Heating On⁘ Seven Years After Axe | TV...

Image Reference: Visit website

In a candid chat, actor Charlie Lawson has shared his current financial struggles, admitting the soaring energy costs have hit hard as he reveals being unable to afford heating in his home.

The situation was exacerbated when his wife Debbie had to shut down her Cheshire farm shop, propelling them into a legal quagmire over debts close to £50,000.

Opening up on The Nolan Show, Charlie expressed: "2024 is the most unsuccessful year I've had in 44 years. And there are a lot of issues to do with that. I've got lots of white hair, I'm 64 and there are less parts around."

When Stephen Nolan probed about how he manages his finances currently, Charlie revealed: "I work for GB News at the moment and I've got to renegotiate that contract next year and my wife Debbie runs a women's refuge," reports the Mirror .

He also discussed the measures they've taken to cope, admitting: "You have lean times, I mean last year the heat was on all the time in the winter, this year it will not be."

He elaborated: "Debbie is manager of a women's refuge, she has a wage. I have a wage at the moment until January so we're all right but we haven't been abroad this year, we don't eat in The Ivy when we go back to Belfast. You cut your cloth. I live 50ft from a local bar in my village - The Rodney so I don't have to get a taxi there, I can walk there and get a tab. There are a lot of people worse off than me. We have two incomes coming into the house - they're not huge but we're better off than an awful lot of people."

Image Reference: See here

As part of celebrations for EastEnders' 40th anniversary, an hour-long, BBC One documentary special will dive into the show's fearless attitude to storytelling to offer viewers behind the scenes access to some of its most poignant storylines from the last 40 years.

Whilst looking at the impact of the show's continued success, Ross will chat to original cast members and show stalwarts Adam Woodyatt (Ian Beale), Gillian Taylforth (Kathy Cotton) and Letitia Dean (Sharon Watts), as they reminisce on their early days in E20 and offer their thoughts on some of their favourite storylines across the past 40 years.

Ross' trip to Albert Square is just the first of many as he has now reprised the iconic role of Grant Mitchell and will arrive back in Walford as the show heads towards its 40th anniversary in February.

Ross Kemp said: "It was a privilege to be asked to present this documentary, celebrating 40 years of EastEnders. During the making of it I was constantly reminded of the impact EastEnders has, not only on the cast and everyone that works on the show, but also on the audience, as well as the effect it has had culturally in the United Kingdom. It also gave me a wonderful opportunity to take a trip down memory lane with some of my dear friends - old and new – and celebrate this special anniversary, it was an absolute honour."

Joe Ingham, Executive Producer, Pulse Films added: "EastEnders has had a transformative effect on television audiences for forty years - myself included. It has been a privilege to work with the legend that is Ross Kemp and an honour to spend time in Walford, revealing a never before seen side of Albert Square, forging emotional family reunions, and exploring the impact its residents have and continue to have beyond E20."

Brookside Legend Lands Coronation Street Role 25 Years After Soap Controversy | TV & Radio...

Image More details: Visit website

A former Brookside star will be returning to the world of soaps as she joins the cast of ITV's Coronation Street . While many stars are currently leaving the Cobbles, Suzanne Collins will reportedly be making an appearance in a guest role later this month.

Since leaving the Liverpool-based programme, Suzanne also had a short stint on Hollyoaks as she made a guest appearance.

The latest addition to the Corrie cast comes as a number of soap stars are leaving the ITV show. Some have been cut by bosses while others have decided to call it a day on their own terms.

Reportedly among those leaving are Craig Tinker actor Colson Smith, Sue Cleaver who plays Eileen Grimshaw, Luca Toolan who portrays Mason Radcliffe, Debbie Webster actress Sue Devaney and Shelley King who plays Yasmeen Metcalfe.

Financial strains are reportedly at the heart of the issue, with insiders citing a significant budget crunch as the reason behind the firings.

" Corrie is on its knees financially and bosses are being forced to make hard decisions" an insider disclosed, pointing to skyrocketing TV production costs and a dwindling advertising market.

British Retailers To Raise Prices And Cut Jobs In Response To Payroll Tax Hike

Image Reference: Visit website

Britain's largest retailers are warning that higher taxes and employment costs are pushing them to raise their prices and reduce head counts.

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) said Wednesday that a survey of 52 chief financial officers revealed that 67% would respond to the increase the U.K.'s national insurance (NI) payroll tax by raising prices.

In terms of staffing adjustments, 56% of respondents said they would reduce paid working hours and overtime, 52% will cut the head count at head offices, while 46% will reduce store staffing levels.

"With the Budget adding over £7 billion to their bills in 2025, retailers are now facing into the difficult decisions about future investment, employment and pricing," said Helen Dickinson, CEO of the BRC.

During Prime Minister's Questions in the House of Commons on Wednesday, Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch cited the BRC's findings when she told Keir Starmer that "his chancellor ignored all the warnings and plowed ahead with an unprecedented borrowing spree, leaving all of us more vulnerable."

The Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves is facing mounting pressure after she unveiled £40 billion in tax rises in her October budget . Reeves and her Labour colleagues have repeatedly said they discovered a £22 billion "black hole" in the public finances after winning the general election in July, forcing them to make tough decisions.

And Cooper described the rise in national insurance contributions as "self-defeating" because it "undermines growth, it does not unleash it, and it piles pressure onto struggling small businesses and high streets."

The BRC's Dickinson echoed that message. "As the largest private sector employer, employing many part-time and seasonal workers, the changes to the NI threshold have a disproportionate effect on both retailers and their supply chains, who together employ 5.7 million people across the country," she said.
