Homebuilders And Retailers In Focus As London Markets Brace For Labour Election Victory

Image Read more: Found here

Headlines:

The UK general election is in focus for London markets this week as investors brace for an expected Labour landslide that could move share prices across the FTSE 100.

Polls widely expect Thursday's vote to see Labour achieve a sizeable majority and oust Rishi Sunak as Prime Minister.

Analysts at AJ Bell said history showed the UK stock market "is by no means frightened of a change in government and may even welcome it", with the FTSE All-Share index on average posting double-digit percentage gains in the first year after an election which sees a prime minister replaced.

"Labour governments can also point to healthy average stock market gains during the terms of their five Prime Ministers during the 42-year era of the FTSE All-Share," they added. "The size of a government's majority seems to be matter of indifference to stock market investors," they said, however.

City analysts have identified banks, homebuilders and retailers as among the most exposed sectors of the stock market to a Labour victory.

The party is branding itself as "pro-growth" , pledging to deliver 1.5m new homes over the next parliament and looking to level the playing field between high street shops and online retailers.

She named Natwest and Lloyds as banking stocks to watch , alongside homebuilders Taylor Wimpey and Vistry and retail giants like Sainsbury's and Primark owner Associated British Foods.

The French election is also on investors' radar this week, with the first round of voting for the National Assembly taking place on Sunday before run-offs a week later.

Bridgerton Actress Looks Completely Unrecognisable As She Lands A New Role Away From Netflix Hit | Daily Mail...

Bridgerton star Bessie Carter looked unrecognisable as she dropped the flamboyant Regency-era frocks for a more subtle look in a new show.

The 30-year-old actress plays the role of Prudence Featherington - one of series three lead Penelope Feathertington's challenging sisters.

However, Bessie looks a far cry from her Bridgerton character in new photos that emerged on Wednesday from the set of Outrageous, as filming for the UKTV drama gets underway.

Set in the 1930s, the series is based on Mary Lovell's biography, The Mitford Girls, and it follows the story of the six Mitford sisters who 'refused to play by the rules, with their often-scandalous lives making headlines around the world.'

Bessie was cast as Nancy Mitford alongside The Control Room's Joanna Vanderham who will play Diana Mitford, and Casualty's Zoe Brough who will portray Jessica Mitford.

In one snap from the set, Bessie is pictured in character and looks as if she has stepped straight out of the 1930s.

Outrageous, which is made by Firebird Pictures and co-commissioned by UKTV and BritBox International, will be a six-part series and will be hitting our screens in 2025.

⁘Brat⁘ Green Is The Mani Shade Of The Moment

Manicurist Eri Narita was behind the brat-green French tips seen at Vogue World, and revealed that her initial inspiration was the greens found in and around a tennis court, from the grass to the balls. She also added a 3D "V" on the models' ring fingers, ensuring the nails looked elevated and chic.

Elsewhere, the pregnant model and British Vogue cover girl Adwoa Aboah added a brat-green manicure to her leopard print ensemble for her baby shower. Worn as a block color on short nails, you couldn't miss Adwoa's statement shade as she caressed her bump. Hailey Bieber is also a fan, having tried glow-in-the-dark green in the past.

The trend isn't only for daring, alternative dressers. Even those manicurists who are famous for their clean girl aesthetic have experimented with the look, like brat-green French tips.

Whether you choose to wear it as an all-over shade or as part of a more intricate look (we love Imarni's snakeskin bubble technique ), summer 2024 is all about experimenting with this unexpected color. The slimier the better.

Image More details: Found here

"The Bear" wowed audiences in Season 2 with a head-spinning number of guest stars, most of them appearing in one episode as members of the extended Berzatto family.

Many of those guest stars — Jamie Lee Curtis, John Mulaney, Gillian Jacobs — are back in Season 3, as well as fan favorites Olivia Colman and Will Poulter, who play fictional chefs in Carmy's (Jeremy Allen White) orbit.

While Season 3 does still has some surprise cameos from faces you'd typically see on a red carpet, it's culinary celebrities who get the spotlight this time around.

Chef Terry eventually sends Carmy to work at Noma in Copenhagen, where he shares a quick glance with the world-famous Rene Redzepi, who's poring over recipe photos on an outdoor bulletin board.

Throughout the episode, Carmy is mentored by Daniel Boulud of New York City's Daniel, who helps him refine his technique while prepping vegetables, using truffle and cooking potatoes, which Carmy thinks back to in flashbacks throughout the season.

There's A Rat In Walford What Are They Going To Do? BBC Calls Pest Control To 87m EastEnders Set

Image Reference: Found here

The BBC were forced to call pest control after the rogue rodents were spotted in the soap's prop store, where they had been chowing down on props and making themselves at home in Albert Square.

According to The Sun newspaper, a report stated: ⁘Attended site for call-out due to reported rat activity in the EastEnders prop store mezzanine floor.

A source told the publication: ⁘'EastEnders' has always tried to represent London and that's become a little too true with an outbreak of rats.

⁘No one wants to see rodents at work and they have been causing a headache by chewing props and leaving droppings everywhere.⁘

But Walford's pint-guzzling characters shouldn't be too concerned just yet, because the gnawing nuisance-causers are yet to infiltrate the fictional boozer.

However, the BBC soap insisted there isn't an ⁘infestation⁘ of the rodents running amok in Albert Square, but admitted ⁘specialists⁘ have been called to deal with uninvited furry guests at times.

An EastEnders spokeswoman said: ⁘There is no rat infestation at 'EastEnders' but on the odd occasion, if we have suspected an unauthorised visit from a furry visitor, we have called in the specialists.⁘

This comes after popular 'EastEnders' star Lorraine Stanley bowed out of the BBC soap as Karen Taylor earlier this month.

But, ironically, she has gone on to land the role of Queen Rat in pantomime 'Dick Whittington' at the Kings Theatre Portsmouth this year.

You might find something fishy about the artwork of British food artist Michelle Wibowo . The artist recently created a series of miniature busts of famous Brits, all made using Japanese sushi ingredients. The creative artist combines smoked salmon, sushi rice, pickled ginger, and other authentic ingredients to create each edible masterpiece. Each celebrity sushi art creation is around 10 cm wide and 18cm tall, which is about the size of a large grapefruit for Americans.

Each celebrity sushi art sculpture uses a British celebrity as its model. There are singers, such as Eelton John and Edamame Sheeran . The artist has also created busts depicting Benedict Cumberbatch and English football (soccer) stars Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka.

The artist spent around 120 hours creating the impressive lineup of celebrity sushi art. The Japanese food brand Yutaka commissioned the work as part of their International Sushi Day celebration. The artwork was on display in London at the CasildArt Gallery. In a press release , the artist said, ⁘I'm used to creating sculptures from unconventional materials, but working with sushi ingredients was a whole other kettle of fish!"

The artist is new to working with sushi as a medium and surprised by the available ingredients. She found the work challenging and hilarious . The CEO of Tazaki Foods (owner of the Yuyaka brand), Ken Furukawa, said in the press release, "We wanted to create an exhibition that celebrates the diversity and creativity of Japanese cuisine, and inspires you to be adventurous at home in the kitchen."

87m Set Hit With Rat Infestation As BBC ⁘Calls In Specialist⁘ | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV...

EastEnders ' £87 million set in Hertfordshire has reportedly been invaded by rodents. The BBC is said to have called in pest control after rats were suspected of nesting in the show's prop room floor, allegedly feasting on props before specialists intervened.

Despite this, the broadcaster has denied any "infestation", admitting only to occasional unwelcome visitors at the location, which required professional help.

A report from pest control, as per The Sun , stated: "Attended site for call-out due to reported rat activity in the EastEnders prop store mezzanine floor. A thorough visual inspection was carried out showing chewed products/nesting material."

An insider told the publication: " EastEnders has always tried to represent London and that's become a little too true with an outbreak of rats. No one wants to see rodents at work and they have been causing a headache by chewing props and leaving droppings everywhere."

Lack Of Finance Forces 44% Of London SMEs To Pause Business - London Business News...

Image Read more: See here

More than two in five (44%) London based small and medium sized enterprises ("SMEs") have had to stop or pause an area of their business because of a lack of finance over the last couple of years.

This is according to new research commissioned by Manx Financial Group PLC (AIM:MFX), the financial services group which includes, amongst other operating subsidiaries, Conister Bank Limited ("Conister"), Conister Finance ⁘ Leasing Limited and Blue Star Business Solutions Limited.

The most common activities that London based SMEs have been forced to pause or stop because of a lack of financing were marketing, opening new offices or sites and launching new products.

Manx Financial Group's research showed that nearly a third (31%) of UK SMEs as a whole have paused an area of their activity and while this has decreased from 40% in 2023, one in ten SMEs that looked to secure external finance and/or capital were unable to access it. In London this number was 12%.

This limited access to finance poses serious risks for both SMEs and the broader UK economy , particularly in terms of growth during uncertain times when support is most needed. The economic impact is significant, as SMEs contribute to about half of all private sector turnover in the UK. Innovative solutions are urgently required to address this funding gap.

Shein Moves Closer To Listing On London Stock Exchange

Image Reference: See here

Chinese fast fashion firm Shein has filed initial paperwork taking it a step closer to listing on the London Stock Exchange, the BBC understands.

The online retail giant, which is based in Singapore but has extensive operations in China, filed the confidential papers with UK regulators recently, according to sources close to the process.

Shein became one of the biggest fashion retailers in the world during the pandemic, but has faced criticism over the environmental impact of its business model.

The firm has also come under fire for some of its working practices, which include allegations of forced labour in its supply chain – something the company denies.

Both Shein and the UK regulator, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), declined to comment on a potential London listing, which could value the company at about £50bn.

A company wishing to sell its shares in the UK must first apply to the FCA for a prospectus containing detailed financial information to be approved.

The filing of papers is the first stage of that process and brings the company a step closer to a listing in the UK – selling shares in the business on the London Stock Exchange – but doesn't necessarily mean it will end up listing there.

Hollyoaks Confirms Sex Betrayal For Ste With Unexpected Character | Soaps

Image Reference: See here

Jonny, best known for his role as doomed Paul Coker in EastEnders, warned Metro.co.uk from the outset that his new alter-ego is bad news, telling me: 'He's really powerful, manipulative, keeps people guessing.

'At the start when he comes in he's just there to take over. He's really power-hungry and he won't stop for anyone.'

So, when he unexpectedly crosses paths with fan-favourite Ste in coming weeks, it can only be bad news.

And, when I confirmed with actors Kieron and Jonny that sparks were going to fly , they had a correction for me.

'I wouldn't say sparks flying, I would say explosions, inferno!' grinned Jonny. 'It basically goes straight into it and then there's a twist just to add to the torment.'

Kieron added the word 'intense' into the mix, and it sounds like even that could be an understatement, with the promise of some electrifying scenes.

However, as one would expect from a character like Rex, Ste – and James by default – may well regret this encounter.

Of 800 respondents to a new 1st Formations survey , 51% said they thought that the Tories are better for business (over Labour).

"Given that the Conservatives have historically been seen as the party of business, it's actually quite surprising that they only got 51%," says Graeme Donnelly, CEO and founder of 1st Formations, the largest company formation agent in the UK. "The fact that Labour is up to 49% shows how far that party has come since the Jeremy Corbyn era."

Graeme continued by adding: "The resounding statement that SME owners feel SMEs are treated less favourably than big businesses by the UK government, should act as a wake up call to both Labour and The Conservatives. The lack of willingness by the government to lower business rates or VAT rates, coupled with Brexit's disproportionate effect on SMEs ability to recruit talent to function effectively, is likely to be stifling economic growth that the UK desperately needs."

The survey also asked owners: Has your business experienced a positive or negative impact from Brexit? 42% of respondents said 'negative', versus 9% saying 'positive'. The remainder said 'neither'.

Tummy Flattering⁘ White Stuff Dress For ⁘Compliments*

With the sun finally making an appearance, it's a smart idea to stock your wardrobe with summer-ready pieces that'll keep you feeling comfortable and looking stylish during warm weather. British fashion brand White Stuff is proving popular, with shoppers snapping up the Naya Jersey Printed Tier Dress for £65.

It's not just the 'gorgeous' colour and print of the dress that shoppers are impressed with, it's how 'well-fitting' and 'flattering' the silhouette is. The midi dress boasts a beautiful button-down front, giving as much coverage as wanted, and the floaty skirt skims over your tummy 'without being voluminous'.

It's a great pick if you have a shorter frame as you can choose from a regular or petite skirt length. One 5'2 shopper who typically struggles to find summer dresses that aren't too long said it was the 'perfect length' and another wrote: "The length is right in the petite if you don't want the dress to be down to your ankles, I am 5' tall and it was just right."

The Naya dress is so 'versatile' as it can be styled in multiple ways. Dress it up with strappy sandals and a smart shrug in the evening or keep the outfit casual by pairing with trainers and sunglasses. It's an ideal pick to take away on holiday as 'the colours make you feel summery' and it has the advantage of being made from fabric that 'packs without creasing'.

It has also been noted that the dress 'has pockets' which is a winning feature for many shoppers. The lightweight and breathable shape and material will keep you cool, yet the midi skirt length is great for unpredictable weather.

Many shoppers are taken to the reviews section on the White Stuff website to leave glowing praise. One person said: "The blue and white pattern makes this a great sunshine holiday dress. I really like the longer length short sleeves and the front pockets. I bought this dress for a cruise holiday and when I unpacked it, there were no creases, making it a perfect dress for packing."

Image More details: See here

Hollyoaks has aired Sharon Bailey's exit scenes tonight (April 24), as Jamelia makes her departure from the Channel 4 soap.

Zoe was clearly uncomfortable about the idea of leaving the village behind, while her grandmother Pearl was totally behind the decision, stating: ⁘A bit more notice would have been nice, but as much as I'll miss you and Zoe, I couldn't be more proud.⁘

Later on, at the Love Boat, Zoe admitted to Lizzie Chen-Williams that she really didn't want to leave her friends, Pearl, and Hunter McQueen behind.

As Sharon prepared to get in the taxi, Zoe said she didn't need her mum to whisk her off to Dubai to make up for not being there for her as a kid, but to be proud of who she is now.

In the end, Sharon left the village, while Zoe hugged Pearl and tearfully said that getting up and leaving was ⁘just what she does.⁘

Explaining why she decided to leave Hollyoaks , Jamelia said in the ITV documentary series Drama Queens: ⁘Hollyoaks was like putting a plaster on a very deep wound. But I know I haven't done the healing work that needs to be done and I can't do it while focusing on such a demanding job...

⁘They offered me another year, I wanted to say yes because I loved it but I just know that it wouldn't be the right thing for me to do right now.⁘

Emmerdale looks set to be losing another star in the coming months, with actor Jurell Carter reportedly due to be leaving his role as Nate Robinson.

Meanwhile, one actor who has teased that they may be doing the opposite and making a comeback to Emmerdale is Adam Thomas, who played Adam Barton on the soap from 2009 to 2018.

BBC EastEnders Cancelled As New Soap Schedule Confirmed | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV | Express.Co.Uk

EastEnders , which usually airs on a Monday night, will not broadcast as usual on June 24, as BBC bosses instead focus on coverage of the Croatia vs Italy game from 7:30pm, ready for kick off at 8pm.

The soap will air on Tuesday, June 25, and Wednesday, June 26, but BBC One viewers will have to flick over to BBC Two at 7:30pm to watch the latest unfold in Albert Square.

This is because the France v Poland game, which kicks off at 5pm on Tuesday, has pushed the schedule back, while the Ukraine v Belgium game is airing on Wednesday.

Those not wanting to miss out on the action though, can still remain up to date with the latest episodes as BBC will be dropping instalments on iPlayer at 6am each morning from Monday through to Thursday.

They captioned the timetable: "Catch all the drama from The Square, this week on @BBCOne, @BBCTwo and on @BBCiPlayer! # EastEnders ."

Reacting on X, formerly known as Twitter, one viewer wrote: "Thank you for letting us know I wish they had a different channel for football Eastenders is the best soap."

As another added: "Oh that's right Euro 2024." This week on EastEnders will see a theft from Lola's charity fundraiser lead to the introduction of three new Mitchells, Teddy (Roland Manookian), Billy's (Perry Fenwick) secret brother, and his sons Harry (Elijah Holloway) and Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgeman).

Four-day Health Alert Triggered As 30C Heatwave Begins

Image More details: See here

A yellow heat health alert has been triggered for most of England including London , as temperatures look likely to soar to 30C in parts of the country.

The alert has been issued for every region except the north east, with some areas being warned of the potential for "significant impacts" on the health and social care sector.

After a cooler and slightly overcast weekend, the capital is set to bask in glorious sunshine from Monday onwards.

The strongest warnings have been issued for the south east, the East Midlands, the east of England and East Anglia.

The UKHSA warns that in London, there are likely to be "minor" impacts on health and social care, including an "increase in risk of mortality amongst vulnerable individuals and increased potential for indoor environments to become very warm".

This warning is also in place for the north-west and north-east of England, the west of England, and the south west.

Liam Esslick, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said: "According to the latest models, there is a chance temperatures could reach 30C.

"It's not guaranteed but this will likely be towards the south-east of England, particularly London, Essex and Kent.

Bell hasn't commented on his reported Hollyoaks exit either, though he no longer references the E4 streaming-first soap in his Instagram bio .

Hollyoaks is in the process of a significant cast cull for its transition from five weekly episodes to three as part of a streaming-first strategy.

Other upcoming cast exits are expected for Jonas Khan (Zain), Glynis Barber (Norma), Emma Rigby (Hannah), and Matthew James-Bailey (Ethan).

Hollyoaks will address cast departures this September with a time jump to bring the storylines forward by one year.

⁘It's not kind to our characters or our audience to have a drawn-out stream of goodbyes on screen, and a heightened stunt didn't feel like the right approach,⁘ producer Hannah Cheers said. ⁘We also want the flexibility to see favourite characters again and we got really excited about how this would work.

She said: ⁘Luckily my left eye was really good with 20/20 vision and the only thing I struggled with after that first incident was being able to read. Determined to seek more answers, Lisa decided to see another doctor who confirmed that the peripheral vision in her left eye had completely gone. She then learned about the condition NAION - but it took until November 2023 for Lisa to receive a diagnosis.
