‘The Crown' Producer Andy Harries ⁘ ‘Philomena' Writer Jeff Pope Plan Film

In a poignant tribute to a beloved British comedy star, a forthcoming film is set to celebrate the ___ and career of Caroline Aherne, creator of The Royle Family and The Mrs Merton Show. Producer Andy Harries, renowned for his work on The Crown, and Oscar-nominated writer Jeff Pope, known for Philomena, are collaborating on the project, aptly titled Half The World Away, a nod to the Oasis song that served as The Royle Family's theme tune.

Harries, who had a front-row seat to Aherne's talents, having executive-produced The Royle Family and Mrs Merton for the BBC, is well-positioned to bring her story to ___ on the big screen. Pope, who worked closely with Aherne on several projects, including The Fattest Man in Britain and The Security Men, is equally enthusiastic about the project.

"I loved Caroline and I still think about her, or some funny line she came up with, almost every day," he said. "She was a true original, a working-class woman from Manchester who broke all the rules — every single one of them." The film aims to showcase Aherne's genius and the driving forces behind her creative work.
