The British Vogue Team On Their Songs Of The Summer

So this time round, at British Vogue , we did things a little differently. Instead of arguing over the objective song of the summer, we decided to nominate our own personal song of the summer. From infectious, club-ready future classics to UK genre-blending beats, these are the songs the British Vogue team have had on rotation throughout the heatwave and then some.

If you spend any time online at all, you've probably heard the line " My name is pink and I'm really glad to meet you / You're recommended to me by some people " in PinkPantheress 's trademark lilting drawl. The 24-year-old Brit has been making waves for a while now but in the last year or so it feels as though her glitchy, garage-adjacent cool-girl sound has really accelerated.

There's no better track for riding the night buses of London after a night out with, and ditto for the morning after. – Daisy Jones, acting news and features editor

Ahead of her upcoming album Black Star , due out in August, Ghanaian-American musician Amaarae has released the first single from the LP and, as expected, it's a banger.

"S.M.O" is pacy, bassy and exactly what you want to hear in the club. Amaarae's bread and butter is blending genres – highlife, zouk, dance, amapiano – alongside her floaty soprano. As for the lyrics, well, they speak for themselves… – Riann Phillip, associate features editor

I listened to Lorde 's "What Was That" on repeat for days when it was first released – and haven't stopped listening to it since.

It's euphoric, yet tinged with bittersweet nostalgia, and best of all, makes me want to dance in a way that few songs have lately. The ultimate summer banger. –  Emily Chan, senior sustainability editor ⁘ acting executive fashion news and features editor

When Chappell Roan performed "The Giver" on SNL last year, I felt annoyed.

I felt annoyed because I had to listen to it via TikTok, which kept automatically closing whenever my phone locked, leading to this strange juddering listening experience, all because I was way too desperate to hear this yeehaw-ish ode to topping. Thankfully, she then released it for real in March, and it's been on heavy rotation since.

It's got everything a girl needs: boot-stomping country beats, rip-roaring fiddle leads and some na-na-na's thrown in for good measure. Oh and it's about being a giver, if you know what I mean. – Daisy Jones, acting news and features editor
