Meghan Markle 's high-profile plans for a major British Vogue feature in 2022 reportedly fell apart following a series of unmet demands and editorial clashes, something that backfired on the star.

The 43-year-old had expected a prominent role in the magazine's September 2022 issue, coinciding with her scheduled keynote speech at the One Young World Summit in Manchester.

And she was on track as early plans allegedly involved significant coverage in both the print and digital editions of British Vogue, with Markle positioned as a central figure in the issue.

However, developments fell apart when Markle requested a level of control that is almost never granted, even to global superstars, ultimately ending her relationship with then-British Vogue editor Edward Enninful .

" Meghan asked for control over [the] photographer, writer, final edit, photos, cover lines, and wanted a global issue," a source told thedailymail.com.

The ambition went further than just a feature in British Vogue. The former Suits star allegedly sought a "global cover" that would place her on both the UK and US editions of Vogue simultaneously.

"Nobody gets that. Not even Beyonce ," a source continued to PEOPLE, with only a handful of celebrities have achieved that level of visibility. Adele, for instance, appeared on both covers in November 2021.

The situation then worsened when Markle arranged a direct Zoom meeting with Anna Wintour , the editor-in-chief of US Vogue, to pitch her idea personally. However, unknown to the ex-actress, the spot was already committed to Serena Williams .
