According to The Sun a source said: "Charlie's leaving is a big decision but it's time for him to spread his wings. There are big changes at Hollyoaks and he's going to miss everyone there but he's excited for the future."

This comes after the news that Charlie's co-star Ela-May Demircan is also alleged to be leaving the soap after 13 years .

Jamie Lomas (Warren Fox) has left the show , along with Richard Blackwood (Felix Westwood) and Ross Adams (Scott Drinkwell) will all be leaving the show.

The schedule of Hollyoaks is set to change in less than a month and the new format will begin with a dramatic year-long time jump and the exodus of over 20 cast members.
