Speaking further about Mark's advice, he continued: "I remember [Mark] saying when he was filming, that it's such a gorgeous place to work – it's really, really brilliant. So when this came along, I was excited. And it is great. He said to me, 'I told you so' and I said, 'You did'."

Special And Certainly Unusual: On Paolo Roversi's New Book, Iconic Creative Process, An...

In April 1986 a set of fashion photographs appeared in the latest British Vogue that even the most casual of readers could not fail to notice – and be struck by their quiet beauty. Here was something different, something special, certainly something unusual. Most fashion photography in the '80s was showy and provocative – this was, after all, the era of sunshine and sportswear, of the iridescent colours of disco couture, of Brooke Shields and Calvin Klein . These pictures were removed from all that: they were subtle and still; the pages themselves appeared washed in a luminescent turquoise tone. The styling was out of kilter. The models' heads were swathed in bandages as if in preparation for a collective entombment, their features all but bleached out, their expressionless faces adding to a prevailing sense of misadventure. Just the sort of motifs that made British Vogue so idiosyncratic…

This was a calling card from Paolo Rovers i, born in Italy's Ravenna in 1947, who, in the years since, has become one of the most sought-after photographers in fashion. His distinctive painterly style has spawned many imitators. A monograph of his work, the first to examine his output in its entirety, is out on 15 May.

Content apart, what made his images stand out was their unusual form. Roversi was the first to make use – for mainstream fashion – of 8x10 Polaroid film, the peculiar tones and unpredictable colour balance giving impressionistic results, which was again out of tune with the times. By their very nature "one-offs", the stillness was due to the long exposure times that Roversi preferred. As he considers his fashion pictures as, in essence if not in practice, portraits, this allowed them to be "more touching and more human".

The instantaneous nature of Polaroid film led to a completely new way of working, certainly for his fashion editors. As Grace Coddington recalled, "When I first started working with him I was more than a little intimidated. Not only did I have to be quick to react to the Polaroids, I realised that if I didn't speak up immediately there could be no excuse later… It's a brave and confrontational way of working." When Polaroid discontinued its large-format instant film, he bought up as much of the existing stock as he could afford and then turned to digital.

Coronation Street And Emmerdale Stars Fear Soaps ‘Could Be MERGED Forever' To Save Cash Amid ITV...

ITV staffers are still reeling from Tuesday's dramatic culling of Daytime, which left many big names fearing for their jobs.

And according to insiders, the bloodbath at the station is set to continue - and next up on the chopping block is likely to be soaps .

That's the big concern from cast and crew working on ITV juggernauts Coronation Street and Emmerdale , who are anticipating major changes in the coming months, most of which are filling them with dread.

A TV insider told The Sun: "After the Daytime announcement, the big feeling within the soap departments at ITV is the cost-cutting focus will shift to them.

"There's been some seismic changes already over the past year in regards to penny pinching and many believe that's just the start.

"Given the big audience figures and institutional history within ITV, soaps used to have an untouchable feel about them.

Earlier this year, ITV announced from January 2026, both soaps will be reduced to five 30-minute episodes per week , rather than six, resulting in a one-hour reduction in soap content on the channel.

Bosses attempted to spin the new streamlined output by branding the new soap schedule as ITV's new "Power Hour", with Emmerdale airing at 8pm followed by Coronation Street at 8:30pm, Monday to Friday.

However, the move is expected to cut up to 75 jobs, with many crewmembers already drafted into redundancy meetings.

UK City 200-miles From London Gets £35m Boost With New Lines Launched

A new rail platform has officially opened with its first new direct services to London. The expansion of the now four-platform station in Bradford was made possible by substantial government funding.

Beginning this week, around seven direct trains a day will run from the station to the capital – with more services expected to be added in December. This includes a morning northbound service that arrives in the West Yorkshire city at 9.52am.

The previous government announced funding for the new platform back in 2024, promising to support Bradford for its 2025 City of Culture year. The platform expansion was made possible thanks to £35million of funding from the government.

The report continued: "This is enabled by the opening of the new Platform 0 at Forster Square. LNER's expanded services to Bradford mark a significant boost in connectivity, supporting the city's UK City of Culture celebrations while driving economic growth and opportunity across the region."

Hinchcliffe confirmed that the new LNER trains will also benefit Shipley and will begin stopping off at the station's lengthened platforms in August.

Finding the Perfect Position A Guide to Ergonomics and Monitor Placement

In today's digital world, many of us spend countless hours in front of computer screens. Whether it's for work, entertainment, or staying connected, proper monitor placement is crucial for maintaining good posture, reducing eye strain, and preventing discomfort. Ignoring these principles can lead to a range of health issues, from neck and back pain to headaches and even long-term musculoskeletal disorders.

The Ergonomic Sweet Spot

The ideal monitor placement considers several key factors, all aimed at minimizing strain and promoting a comfortable viewing experience. First and foremost, the top of your monitor screen should be at or slightly below eye level. This encourages a natural, downward gaze, reducing neck strain. Think of it this way: you want your eyes to be looking slightly down at the screen, not up or straight ahead.

Next, position your monitor at arm's length away from you. This distance allows your eyes to comfortably focus on the entire screen without excessive strain. Adjusting the distance slightly can help if you have a larger monitor or specific vision needs.

Beyond Height and Distance: Angle and Lighting

Beyond the basic height and distance, consider the angle of your monitor. It should be directly in front of you, not off to the side. If you're using multiple monitors, arrange them in a slight arc to minimize neck twisting. Also, take into consideration the ambient lighting in your workspace. Avoid glare from windows or overhead lights by adjusting the monitor's brightness and contrast. An anti-glare screen protector can also be a helpful addition.

Investing in Your Well-being: Monitor Stands and Adjustable Arms

If your current setup doesn't allow for optimal monitor placement, investing in a monitor stand or adjustable arm can make a world of difference. Monitor stands provide a simple way to raise the height of your monitor, while adjustable arms offer even greater flexibility, allowing you to fine-tune the height, distance, and angle to perfectly suit your needs. Consider these as investments in your long-term health and well-being. Remember, small changes to your workspace can have a significant impact on your comfort and productivity.
