More British Households Will Serve Plant-Based Food At Christmas

A new customer survey by Tesco has revealed that more than a quarter of British households are planning to include plant-based mains in their Christmas meals this year.

Of 6,375 British adults surveyed, 27 percent said they will serve or will consider prioritizing meat-free options. Some said this is because they will have vegetarians and/or vegans as guests. Others said they want a meat-free alternative in place of a traditional meaty main, or just enjoy plant-based food.

⁘We know that a number of customers are choosing plant-based diets and we're seeing an increase in desire for Christmas centrepieces that are meat-free,⁘ Breige Donaghy, Tesco Product Development ⁘ Innovation Director, said in a statement.

Shoppers have been drawn to ⁘veg-led foods⁘ featuring ingredients such as pulses, nuts, seeds, and vegetables. These foods now represent 40 percent of all plant-based sales, Tesco reports. That equals an extra 600,000 veg-led dishes sold by Tesco in 2024.

In response, Tesco has brought out more veg-led Christmas products, including a Roasted Vegetable and Cranberry Star, a Butternut Wellington, and a Mushroom ⁘ Chestnut Festive Wreath.

A British actress has lashed out at Australian influencer Tammy Hembrow for allegedly 'copying' her wedding ideas and having no 'imagination'.

Betsy-Blue English took to Instagram on Thursday with a now-deleted post in which she accused the fitness guru, 30, of stealing her wedding cake idea.

Both women had towering eight-foot-tall tiered cakes at their nuptials, which were all white and decorated with the same white bow embellishments. 

Betsy-Blue, 28, tied the knot with her musician partner David Stewart in late August in Paris, France, while Tammy married Matt Zukowski in Byron Bay on Saturday last week.

The UK actress, who has 165,000 Instagram followers in comparison to Tammy's 17.3million, took exception to some of the details the Aussie included in her wedding.

'I wish people would get their own imagination sometimes,' Betsy-Blue captioned an image she shared of Tammy standing on a chair to cut the top of her towering eight-foot-tall cake. 

'It has been done before her. She thinks she's the first person to get an 8ft tall cake? She's got like 160K followers. Never heard of her until now,' someone else added.

Actress Paula Lane has played the role of Ella Forster in Emmerdale since the beginning of the year, but looks to be leaving the ITV soap just a year later.

Lane, who previously acted in ITV soap Coronation Street as Kylie Platt, joined Emmerdale in late 2023 with her first scenes airing in January 2024.

It was announced earlier this summer that the actor was due to reprise his role as Martin Platt as part of long-time co-star Helen Worth's departure storyline this Christmas, though it was later confirmed by an ITV spokesperson that he had ⁘stepped down from filming for personal reasons⁘.

⁘I had no idea who had made this complaint or anything about it but I lost my job. It's been hell. I've been low all the way through,⁘ Wilson said.

He explained that he got the call to reprise the role of Martin in February and ⁘jumped at the chance⁘, adding: ⁘Helen and I go back a long way and I wanted to be the person that she left with — and I think the viewers did as well.⁘

However, after filming his scenes in July, he said he received an email from soap bosses at the start of August that ⁘truly stunned⁘ him.

They requested a meeting with him in which he said he was ⁘confronted with three executives who said they had received an allegation that I had put my hands up a woman's skirt.⁘

⁘They also said police had contacted them and told them they had referred the case to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS),⁘ he continued, explaining that he was told ⁘they had to cut the contract and protect their cast.⁘

Wilson said the woman who made the allegation had ⁘worked in connection with the show⁘, but he wasn't aware of any further details regarding the case until his lawyers got into contact with an officer assigned to it.
