In a refreshing turn of events, small businesses are reclaiming the mall experience. A new boutique shop, The Local, is set to open at London's White Oaks Mall, offering a unique space for over 80 Ontario-based artists and makers to showcase their products. Co-owner Lorenz Manaig and his wife are behind this innovative venture, which aims to make it easier for small businesses to reach potential customers year-round. The Local's concept is simple yet effective: bring together a diverse group of vendors under one storefront, allowing customers to support local businesses in one convenient location.

Manaig notes that in today's digital age, it's becoming increasingly difficult for artists to sell their products online, citing the challenges of getting traction on platforms and navigating Canada Post strikes and changes to duty-free U. S. shipping. For vendors like Tammi Chen, co-owner of independent game and art studio Tata Games, The Local presents a welcome opportunity.

Chen and her business partner Annis Li have been selling their products at local pop-up markets and comic conventions, but recognize that this model isn't sustainable in the long term. By joining The Local, they can tap into the busy foot traffic of White Oaks Mall and reach a wider audience.
