Rudolph Walker, a veteran actor from the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders, recently had the honor of reopening the historic sound stages at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire. These iconic stages, which had been closed for renovation due to safety concerns with the roofs, are now back in operation. The stages have played host to some of the most legendary films and television series of all time.
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Superman IV, and The Crown are just a few examples of the many productions that have been filmed on Stage 7 over the years. Stage 8 was the site of Jabba the Hutt's famous throne room scene in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, while Stage 9 is where Jack Nicholson's unforgettable door-axing scene in The Shining was filmed.
Elstree Studios, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary, has a rich history that dates back to 1925 when a Hollywood producer joined forces with a British film producer to open the facility. Over the years, it has been a production base for blockbuster films and TV series, including Netflix's The Crown.
