Source: Visit websiteCoronation Street has given fans an update on Eileen Grimshaw, just two months after her departure from the show.
Eileen, played by Sue Cleaver, first made her appearance on the cobbles back in 2000, along with the rest of the Grimshaw family, including sons Jason (Ryan Thomas) and Todd (Bruno Langley: Gareth Pierce), who arrived a few months later.
Eileen quickly became embroiled in several major storylines. From her feuds on the cobbles to her marriage to notorious criminal mastermind Pat Phelan (Connor McIntyre), her time in Weatherfield was anything but dull.
However, earlier this year it was revealed that Sue was leaving the soap after a quarter of a century portraying Eileen. The actress later shared that she wanted to explore new opportunities.
Despite a potential new romance with Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins), George decided to delete the message, sparking a flurry of reactions from soap fans.
One disappointed viewer posted on a Corrie Facebook fan page: ⁘Was half hoping George would reply to Eileen and she would come back!⁘ Another added: ⁘Same I'd rather have George with Eileen than Christina!⁘ A third commented: ⁘That must be it for him and Eileen then,⁘ accompanied by a broken heart emoji.
