New research by estate agents Savills has revealed the most wealthy places in the UK. The areas had the highest number of households with the biggest mortgages, showing both high earnings and high house prices .

What makes these locations so desirable and posh is that you get more options for huge family homes while still experiencing the bustling high streets full of amazing things to do.

The Telegraph's Britain's poshest suburbs list featured 14 areas, and among them were many in the country's capital.

Top of the list was Herne Hill in London . The south London district has an average house price of £1,666,094 and an average household income of £149,525.

The area was previously part of the Manor Milkwell, which was a mixture of farms and woodland until the late 18th century. In 1783, a timber merchant bought the land Samuel Sanders and began leasing large plots of land to wealthy families.

Today, the area is the "most sought-after" suburban area in the country. It has various landmarks, including Brockwell Park - a 125.5-acre green space and Herne Hill Velodrome, which hosted track cycling events in the 1948 Summer Olympics.

Among the 14 suburbs listed, five were in London, including Between the Commons - the area between Clapham Common, Wandsworth Common and Tooting Bec. The average household price is £1,652,717. However, the average household income is, in fact, higher than Herne Hill at £174,152.

What makes the area attractive for buyers is that it boasts multiple large green spaces, boutique shops, independent coffee shops and lines of beautiful Victorian homes.
