Coronation Street fans were left shocked when Glory Bailey made a surprise return to the ITV cobbles after a year-long absence, only to learn that the character had been recast.
Eleanor Beckles had portrayed Glory since 2021 and continued in the role until her final appearance earlier this year. Now, Mayia M has taken over the part, with Glory expected to appear more frequently in the months ahead.
The recast was confirmed by the acting agency The Drama MOB, managed by Coronation Street star Tina O'Brien. They welcomed Mayia M to the show with a post on Instagram , saying: "Welcome to Coronation Street , Maiya!"
"Who caught our beautiful Maiya last night making her debut as 'Glory Bailey'? Maiya's first episode just happened to fall on her 4th birthday, so it was a double celebration! Maiya started filming for the role a few months ago and took over from Eleanor - another little Drama MOB star!"
They added: "We cannot wait to see more of Maiya on our screens, Maiya joins a long list of Drama MOB stars playing roles on Coronation Street and we couldn't be prouder."
Fans were quick to flood social media to congratulate the up-and-coming star on her exciting new role. One person said: "aww glory is sooo cuute # corrie ."
