EastEnders has confirmed a devastating scam storyline for Jean Slater, as part of the BBC's upcoming Scam Safe week.

Last month, Jean received a letter informing her there was money in her pension that she had been unaware of. She was surprised to hear that she had £12,000 in her pension fund, with the potential for more.

After calling the financial company, Jean shared her personal information, including her national insurance number, in order to gain advice on how to grow the money quickly. She was told that she could invest in a tea plantation which would generate ⁘invisible income⁘ for her every month.

In next week's episodes, Jean receives a phone call from an investment company. She speaks to the advisor about making more of her money and is intrigued by what they offer her.

Following the call, Jean makes an important decision about her investment. But will she do something she later regrets?

This storyline will take place during BBC's Scam Safe week , which starts on November 23 and features special programming across TV, iPlayer, Radio, Sounds and Online.

⁘The storyline will raise awareness of how scammers use plausible narratives to convince people to part with personal information and money.⁘

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
