Coronation Street star Alex Bain is about to wave farewell to the ITV soap after 15 years on the cobbles as Simon Barlow.
But while the actor had originally appeared to be on board with moving on from the show, reports have now emerged that the decision was taken out of his hands and he is desperate to stay, pleading with bosses to keep him on.
⁘It's been incredibly emotional for Alex and he really doesn't want to leave at all. He's been begging bosses to keep him in mind for the future. He wants to go back already.⁘
The soap actor has played Simon since he was seven years old, but has now finished filming on his final scenes with an explosive exit storyline for the character set to air in the summer.
Alex recently shared an emotional post about leaving with a dressing room selfie on Instagram, captioning it: ⁘I can't believe this is nearly over! I am going to miss this place so dearly!⁘
He hinted at his time on the soap being close to done in March as he posted on Instagram: ⁘Well my day is done! Nice and short day today! I'm gonna miss this little space some dearly when I go! So glad I've got some shooting days left! So thankful!⁘
Former co-star Jack James Ryan, who played Jacob Hay, also posted about Alex's departure on Instagram where he shared a photo of them together and wrote: ⁘15 years is no joke. An icon for so many ⁘ a brother of mine. we love u @alexbainofficial.⁘ Alex reposted it and replied: ⁘Love ya too man! thank you to everyone who came last night. It was an absolute blast!⁘
