ITV soap bosses have shared a joint statement to social media warning fans of Emmerdale and Coronation Street to "be mindful" when following their favourite actors online in a rare move.
The programmes both posted a warning to Facebook, Instagram and X (formerly known as Twitter ), explaining how scammers have been targeting show fans. They warned that con men have been using their stars' identities online.
The message read: "Please be mindful that the Coronation Street and Emmerdale actors are often impersonated on social media platforms by scammers who set up fake accounts on platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram , TikTok and Telegram.
"As producers of both programmes, we feel we should warn viewers that this is happening, and noticeably more frequently of late.
Sue Cleaver, who is known for her role as Eileen Grimshaw on the ITV cobbles, recently said that there was "nothing they could do" to stop people taking on the false personas.
