New UK Prime Minister Could Spell Boom Times For London Bankers

The result will come as a surprise to many, even in the UK, who are unlikely to have heard much of Liz Truss before she emerged as a front runner for the party leadership.

Truss ran her campaign on a platform of tax cuts and government assistance for issues such as the sky high energy prices currently plaguing the country. She's expected to announce measures in the coming days, but it's her stance on the UK's financial sector that has the attention of analysts.

London pubs and clubs 'face bigger crisis than during Covid'

One pub in London, which had an annual energy bill of £31,000 in 2021, saw that increase to £86,000 at the start of this year, while a fixed-rate contract would cost "10 times the amount" if it were taken out today.

Amy LamΓ©, the City Hall-appointed "Night Czar", said "We urgently need the Government to step up and take action with a package of support to help tackle rising costs and help bring businesses back from the brink."
