UK's Johnson Fights to Salvage His Premiership From ‘Partygate’ 

Last week, Johnson offered a half-apology in parliament for the breaches of lockdown rules, but said he thought a "bring your own booze" garden party he attended was a genuine work meeting.

Government aides had hoped the storm would blow over and tasked a senior civil servant to investigate.

London, Jan 17 (PTI) Prime Minister Boris Johnson's wife, Carrie, was on Monday forced to apologise for “momentary lapse” over COVID-19 lockdown rules during a friend's party in 2020, even as the so-called "partygate" scandal continues to pile pressure on her husband's leadership

The 33-year-old mother of Johnson's one-year-old son Wilfred and one-month-old daughter Romy was pictured hugging her friend during an engagement party at a private members' club in London in September 2020.

UK police say no probe yet into parties at PM's house during COVID-19 lockdown | Reuters

There were two other drinks parties held inside Downing Street - on April 16, 2021 - when social gatherings indoors and outdoors were limited, The Daily Telegraph newspaper reported late on Thursday. Johnson was at his Chequers country residence that day, the paper said.

But so far most senior figures have offered their leader qualified support, saying he was right to apologise awaiting the results of the inquiry.
