Masks are now compulsory in some outdoor settings in Paris due to a new rule which was passed by police.

Face masks are already mandatory in all public indoor venues in France , including on public transport and in shopping centres.

After leaks suggested Covid tests for fully vaccinated arrivals to the UK could be scrapped by the end of January, the testing industry has warned the move could trigger "hard lockdowns".

At present travellers to the UK must book a so-called day two test, to be taken on the day of arrival or one of the two following days.

'It might sound like a conspiracy theory, but my flight was cancelled by 5G'

At 8.45pm last night, I decided to have an early one. After all, I was getting up at five this morning for my much-looked-forward-to flight to New York.

I'd passed my nail-biting Fit to Fly Covid test late that afternoon, and had finally been able to pack my bags with confidence. Exhausted by the uncertainty that is modern-day travelling, I settled down under the covers.

'Masks bring a new twist to the art of bluffing in Las Vegas'

How many places in America let you smoke inside? A quick Google search suggests (surprisingly) that a dozen or so hold-outs still exist. That said, I'd be willing to venture that there is only one place where smokers are required to use a face mask while indulging their habit.

At first, I'd assumed it must be a joke. But sure enough the sign was official: informing patrons of Caesar's Palace that they can only remove their mask when actively smoking, drinking or eating. What's more, it said, the mask should be pulled back up 'after bite, sip or puff'.

The 37 countries you can enter without a swab

But those days could soon be over. The UK Government has already dropped the requirement of pre-departure tests before flying home for the fully vaccinated, and the Day 2 test has changed from PCR to the cheaper lateral flow.

Better still, it is expected that in the coming weeks Day 2 tests will be scrapped entirely for the fully jabbed, just in time for our half term holidays.
