London fintech hits net profitability as "huge" demand for SME capital surges | Bdaily

London headquartered small business lender iwoca has experienced a surge in working capital demand as SMEs need additional financing due to higher costs and slower repayments from their customers.

The total number of customers funded across the UK and Germany, including all products and repeat customers, grew by over 50 per cent in 2022 vs 2021. iwoca funded 15,429 businesses in 2022, an increase of 54 per cent from 2021.

London restaurants: Outlook 'bleak' as insolvencies mount across the industry 'Bleak' ...

The figures, which were released by accountancy firm Price Bailey, show that 1,880 British restaurant businesses became insolvent in 2022, compared to the previous 12 months when 1,139 restaurant businesses went into insolvency. 

According to the firm, an average 5.2 restaurant businesses are facing closure per day, up from 3.1 in 2021. Price Bailey said that many of these businesses "consist of multiple restaurants".

Iwoca hits profits as recession fears boost small firms' demand for cash

Fintech lender Iwoca said it hit profitability for the first time in four years last quarter as small businesses scrambled to borrow cash amid soaring costs and a looming recession .

Rieche said the demand had "accelerated" just as traditional high street lenders pulled up the shutters to smaller firms amid fears of defaults. Investment management firm Pollen Street Capital has now stumped up a further £45m to extend the Iwoca's funding line to £175m and help it meet demand.
